The Rating Office is manned by a small team of people who's aim is to provide a high level of professionalism in this very esoteric field.

 

Mike Urwin

Mike Urwin  Technical Director

Mike has overall responsibility within the Rating Office. Much of his work is arbitrating any IRC rating queries, and research into future development of various rules. He also manages NSR and is the Swan 45 Class Chief Measurer. Mike sits on the RORC Main, Finance and Technical Committees, the GBR IRC Committee, the IRC Congress, the IRC Technical Committee, the Volvo Open 70 Rule Management Group, Cowes Combined Clubs Committee and various RYA groups.

Jenny Howells  IRC Manager, IT, Webmaster

Jenny manages the day to day technical and administration aspects of IRC, and deputises for Mike on IRC matters. She oversees the issue of rating certificates to almost 4000 boats worldwide, and much of her work is now with the overseas IRC authorities as well as the less straightforward of the UK ratings. Jenny maintains our website, and handles IT issues and IRM administration.

Main areas of work: General overseeing of rating issues. Overseas IRC ratings, IRC designer trials, IRM, website, IT.

Carole Abbott

Carole Abbott   Office Manager

Carole is responsible for the accounts and daily management of the office and issues Mumm 30 class certificates worldwide. Carole has been involved with the development of the Swan 45 and 601 Classes and attends the Nautor’s Swan events assisting with the inspection controls and ratings.

James Dadd   Chief Measurer

Aside from dealing with rule development, James is chief measurer for various classes including the Volvo Open 70 and IRM.  He is also the secretary to the RORC Technical Committee and a member of the RYA Technical Group. James will be away from the office for much of the time in the coming months with his commitments in Valencia for the ACC Measurement Committee.

 

 

Emma Cary  Rating Secretary

Emma works with Jenny on IRC and processes most of the UK Ratings and acts as secretariat to the GBR IRC Committee and IRC Congress. She is also responsible for the administration of Sportsboat and MOCRA ratings.

Main areas of work:  IRC, SBR, MOCRA, measurers' inputs, IRC Committee and Congress secretariat.

 

Faith Walshe  Assistant Rating Secretary

Faith works with Jenny and Emma on IRC and general administration.

 

Anne Paterson  Administration

Anne works part-time and will usually be the first person you speak to. She maintains the daily accounts database, allocates sail numbers and arranges the loadcell.
